Elverson To Host Day In The Park

Elverson Day in the Park, featuring children's games, music and food, will take place on Saturday, June 25, at Livingood Park on South Chestnut Street in Elverson. Events will begin at 5 p.m. and end with a giant firework display at approximately 9 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, June 26.

Elverson Day in the Park is always held on the last Saturday in June, according to Esther Prosser, a member of the Elverson Day Committee. "New this year is that we are selling Elverson T-shirts. There will be child and adult sizes available," said Prosser. "It's our way of promoting Elverson."

The T-shirts, available in green and tan, bear Elverson's nickname, "The Greatest Square Mile."

Musical performances will be featured throughout the event. "We are beginning with a duo called Mr. Paul and Holly B at 5 p.m. They are the opening act," said Prosser. "Carol Ruffner and Company and John Barnett will follow."

The culminating musical act will be the West Chester Swing Kings, known for its repertoire of music by artists such as Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. The fireworks will begin after the group's last song.

Food will be offered by Giovanni's Pizza and Pasta. "Giovanni's, our local pizza and pasta place in Elverson, is going to be a big part of our food (sales) this year," said Prosser.

In addition, the Dog House will offer hamburgers and hot dogs, Kona Ice will be on hand and local Boy Scouts will sell hot dogs.

For children, there will be face painting, a barrel train, T-shirt painting, a petting zoo and a moon bounce. Local children's author Lauren Nappi will provide a book reading. Twin Valley Fire Department will bring emergency vehicles, and there will be an exotic animal show by Allison Ueland from Party Animals Express.

Children who complete the various activities in the park can have a bingo card stamped to earn tickets they can use to enter a drawing to win prizes. First prize is a gift basket, second prize is free pizza from Giovanni's and third prize is free ice cream from Subzero Soft Serve and Deli in Elverson.

In addition, vendors will be on hand offering items for sale, and there will be displays by local organizations, including the Elverson Park and Recreation Committee. "We will have up to 20 different local vendors," Prosser noted.

According to Prosser, the tradition of holding Elverson Day in the Park began in 2011, when Elverson residents celebrated the borough's centennial by gathering at Livingood Park on a Saturday at the end of June. The event has been held each year since, with the exception of 2020, when the event was canceled because of the pandemic.
