Enjoy Community Night Under The Stars

When was the last time you went to a drive-in movie? You can experience a taste of that nostalgia in Manheim at the Under the Stars Community Night. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the courtyard behind the Brick House Cafe, 60 N. Main St.

This is no ordinary drive-in movie, however. You'll have to use your imagination and your creativity. Children are invited to make box cars at the event to sit in while enjoying the movie, said Heather Lindsey, owner and artist of Creative Inspirationz Gallery, who is organizing the event with Brick House manager Christa Neville and owner Dave Reist. "Luca" will be shown on a big screen provided by Reist. "Luca" is a Disney and Pixar movie set in a seaside town in Italy. It tells the story of a young boy whose idyllic summer might be spoiled by the town's secret: Sea monsters live in the water. Under the Stars Community Night will also feature face painting from 7 to 8:30 p.m., hot dogs and s'mores by the fire, popcorn, yard games and more. Everything will be available while supplies last. People who will not be sitting in box cars are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the movie.

The event is free, Lindsey noted, but donations will be accepted to cover the expenses associated with the evening.

She remarked that the event came about as a way to bring people together as the warm weather comes to an end. "Christa, Dave and I wanted a fun way to end summer for the community," she explained. "We want to say thank you for the continuous support of our community."

Lindsey said that along with providing a family-friendly evening of entertainment, Under the Stars Community Night will serve another purpose. "It is our hope that businesses working together for the community will inspire people to spend time and money back onto the businesses that inspire and give back to community," she said, noting that both residents and business owners are responsible for a town's success. "It takes all of us to make a great community."
