Ephrata Cloister plans special tours

The Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, will offer Upper Floor Tours on Saturday, June 15. Tours will begin every hour starting at 10 a.m. with the last tour departing at 2 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discover the unrestored second floor of the 1743 Saron Dormitory building, or Sisters' House. This space maintains much of the structure's original 18th-century design and materials that aided in the building's restoration during the 1940s through 1960s.

Tours will be available on a first-come, first served-basis and are suitable for visitors age 12 and older. There is a fee. Group sizes will be limited, and access to the second floor requires use of a narrow and steep staircase. All participants must sign a waiver prior to the start of the tour.

Additionally, expanded guided tours of the Historic Ephrata Cloister will be offered on select Saturdays throughout the summer. Tours have been set for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 8 and Aug. 10, as well as for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on July 13. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is a per-person cost.

In addition to the traditional guided tour experience that features stops in the Saron (Sisters' House) and Saal (meetinghouse), expanded site tours will also include guided visits to several additional period buildings and areas on-site. Expanded guided site tours will last approximately two hours.
