Estate Planning Seminar Posted

A seminar titled "Helping Protect Your Estate Assets and Avoid Unintended Consequences" will be available on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 8 and 9. The identical sessions will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Room B at Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster.

The seminar will focus on creating a plan that will protect one's assets and provide for one's family members while sparing them the burden of unnecessary taxes, expenses, and delays. Topics will include how to control who gets what, when and how; how to avoid probate; how to calculate the value of an estate; intestacy and how it affects estate distribution; the differences between a revocable and irrevocable trust; the importance of having a trust and life insurance policy if one is from a blended family; strategies that could help reduce taxes; how to finalize one's last wishes; step up in basis rules on inherited assets versus carryover basis rules on gifts; and how to not disinherit children and grandchildren because of divorce or other triggering events.

The seminar is free, but space is limited. The event will adhere to all local and venue-specific precautions and guidelines, including social distancing, sanitation, and capacity limitations.
