Event to celebrate county's founding

Lancaster County was born on May 10, 1729, and LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, invites the public to celebrate at County Founding Day on Thursday, May 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

In addition to evening museum hours, the event will include access to exhibits showcasing artifacts and documents, as well as a kids' activities area featuring crafts and more indoors and outdoors, if weather permits. Cake Wars will highlight area bakers, who will craft odes to Lancaster County in dessert form, and attendees will be able to taste at least one of the creations. Light refreshments, including a specialty cocktail by Jimmy Juice and non-alcoholic options, will be available.

There will also be 15-minute regional flash talks from local researchers, with the schedule available at http://www.lancasterhistory.org.

Tickets are required. Separate fees have been set for LancasterHistory members and for nonmembers age 18 and older. Those age 17 and under will be admitted free and must be accompanied by a paying adult age 18 and older. Tickets may be purchased on the aforementioned website or by calling 717-392-4633.
