Event To Celebrate Frederick Douglass

The Commonwealth Monument Project and Dauphin County Library System will celebrate Black History Month on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. by presenting the next installment in the monthly "Live and Learn" series, "Happy Birthday, Frederick Douglass." The program will be held virtually through Zoom.

The Commonwealth Monument Project will celebrate Frederick Douglass Day, the annual commemoration of Douglass and the day he chose to celebrate his birth. Douglass became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, becoming famous for his oratory and antislavery writings.

Joining the party will be scholars, actors, and artists, who will share their own work related to Douglass. These participants will include Robert Chapman Smith, vice president and editor-in-chief at Big Think; Christine Kinealy, professor at Quinnipiac University; Eon Grey, actor from Dublin; Gene Bruskin, playwright, filmmaker, and producer of "The Moment Was Now," from Baltimore; and LeCount James, motivational speaker and re-enactor from Laurel, Md.

"Happy Birthday, Frederick Douglass" is free and intended for people age 18 and older. To sign up, visit http://www.dcls.org/liveandlearn or call 717-234-4961, ext. 1110.
