Event will honor Florence Starr Taylor

LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will present "Florence Starr Taylor's Lancaster," the second installment of the ongoing "Collections Up Close" program series, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18. The event will offer an exclusive opportunity to view and learn about the art and artifacts in the collection of Florence Starr Taylor, a prominent visual artist and designer who lived and worked in Lancaster in the 1950s and 1960s.

The "Collections Up Close" presentation and pop-up exhibit will offer attendees the chance to view art, artifacts, and memorabilia from Taylor's life and learn from LancasterHistory's experts about the significance and history of each item. She was the first woman reporter and artist for a local newspaper and later became a concept art designer for the redesign of the Fulton Theater in 1964, the first staff artist for PBS in 1965, and a tour guide at James Buchanan's Wheatland.
