Events, support group meetings set

Garden Spot Village (GSV), 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, has posted upcoming events.

On First Friday, Aug. 4, resident artisans Barbara Murphy and Paulette Moore will demonstrate card-making and display their art at The Artisans Corner from 10 a.m. to noon. Visitors may also purchase handcrafted items at the venue.

Servant Stage will present "I'll Fly Away" on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. The revue includes well-known old-time songs, bluegrass music, standards, classic hymns and more. The show, presented in the chapel, is pay-what-you-will and is open to the public.

Philina and Nickita Zhang, teenage sisters from New York City, will present a piano and violin concert on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. Both Philina and Nickita have won domestic and international competitions. The concert will be held in the chapel, and it is free and open to the public.

GSV will also offer several support groups, which are free and open to the community.

Fellow Travelers in Community, a group for individuals noticing cognitive changes in themselves, will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, in the theater.

Low Vision Friends in Community will meet on Aug. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Linda Greth from VisionCorps will present "Helpful Tips for Those With Vision Impairment or Blindness in Social Settings."

Caregiver Friends in Community, for family caregivers of persons with dementia, will meet in the Concord Room at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14. Shelby Swartley, LGH memory and Alzheimer's clinic social worker, will present "Dementia Stages and Medical Research."

Compassionate Neighbors in Community will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. in the theater; the group is for friends or family members of those experiencing cognitive challenges.

Parkinson's Friends in Community, for individuals with Parkinson's and their friends and families, will meet on Monday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Garden Spot Village social workers Sherilyn Lapp and Jenny Snyder will discuss caring and coping.
