Exhibit to explore book creation process

Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) has announced the "Inside the Cover" exhibit, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at different ways to create a children's book. This exhibition will be on display at the Garden Spot Village Main Street Art Gallery, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, through Sunday, April 30. The exhibit features work by Amber Kane, Bill Dussinger, and Matt Novak, with each of these artists and authors showcasing the collaborative nature of creating a children's book and the various methods that can be used to illustrate a story.

The Center for Creative Exploration at PCA&D will partner with the Eastern Lancaster County Library to host a book reading and activity with author and artist Kane on Wednesday, April 26, from 7 to 8 p.m. The event is for children in grades one through six. Kane will read her book "The Weaving Book," which introduces readers to how artists work using their creativity along with the basic techniques that every weaver uses. Program attendees will also learn to create a paper loom and explore how different types of lines and colors affect their patterns. This event is free to attend, and no registration is required. Dussinger is a graphic designer, illustrator, and educator who has been in the design and illustration business for over 40 years and has been an educator for the past 11 years at PCA&D in the Illustration and Graphic Design departments. The first children's book that he illustrated, "The Land of Can," led to the creation of a company that has published numerous books.

Kane spent eight years teaching ninth- through 12th-grade art classes in the public school system. She left art education to focus on her own business in weaving and fibers but quickly found herself teaching online. In addition, she is the director of product management for The Art of Education University, and she also creates books with her brother, fellow educator Ashley Sollenberger.

Novak, an internationally recognized children's book author, has been writing and illustrating picture books for over 30 years. Among his many titles are "The Everything Machine," "No Zombies Allowed," and "Twelve Snails to One Lizard," which was featured on "Reading Rainbow." His books have garnered many awards, including School Library Journal's Best Book of the Year for "Mouse TV" and the International Reading Association's Children's Choice Award for "Newt." He has also worked for The Walt Disney Studios.

The Center for Creative Exploration at PCA&D offers creative experiences for adults, high school students, and children in grades one through nine. For more information, visit http://www.pcad.edu/cce.
