Factory Whistle Concert posted

The Factory Whistle Concert will again fill the morning air at 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25. Through the donations of community businesses and residents, Don Ryan will perform the 25-minute concert using the variable-pitched whistle now installed at 240 Arch St. Ryan will be assisted by two apprentices who are learning how to play the whistle. They are Nicholas Curry and Jon Moyer, both music teachers for the Central York School District. Ryan's son, Scott, will also join him this year. Ryan will celebrate his 70th anniversary doing the concert. It will also be at least 136 years that a whistle has been played in York on Christmas morning.

People who would like to hold tailgate festivities concurrent with the concert are invited to park in the North Queen Street parking lot for the York Revolution.

For the ninth year in the concert's history, people from around the world will be able to view the concert online at http://www.yorkpafactorywhistle.com. Streaming will begin at midnight.

Practice concerts are scheduled for noon on Saturdays, Dec. 14 and 21. The whistle can easily be heard within a 5-mile radius of the concert location, and depending upon the wind, the whistle has been reported from as far away as 10 miles.

For more information, call Ryan at 717-755-0636.
