The Elizabethtown Fair will run from Monday, Aug. 21, to Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, High Street, Elizabethtown. The fair will feature a variety of contests, including a Baby Photo Contest and a Pet Photo Contest. This year, a new event has been added - the Rebar Metalwork Contest.

The Baby Photo Contest, featuring photos of children age 2 or younger, has an entry deadline of noon on Saturday, Aug. 19. Photos may be dropped at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or arrangements can be made by contacting Joyce Hardman at 717-367-0119. Photos will also be accepted in the Fair Office from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 19.

Any 5-by-7-inch or 8-by-10-inch photographs are acceptable for entry; however, organizers recommend that vertical 8-by-10-inch photographs be submitted for display purposes. Photocopies will be accepted. Parents' names, the child's name, and the family's address and phone number must be on the back of the photo.

Photos will be displayed throughout fair week. It is recommended that photos be picked up Aug. 26 in the Fair Office following the announcement of winners at approximately 9 p.m. on Aug. 26. Any photos not picked up at this time will be available for pickup at the GEARS Community Center. All photos must be claimed by Friday, Sept. 8.

For voting purposes during Fair Week, one cent equals one vote. The top three winners will receive cash prizes. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the GEARS Community Center and the Elizabethtown Fair. For more information, call Hardman at the previously mentioned number.

The 27th annual Pet Photo Contest is open to all pets. To submit photos, email Gail Peters at silverdl9@aol.com or deliver the photos to the Fair Office on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. The deadline for entry is Aug. 19.

Photos must be 5 by 7 inches or 8 by 10 inches. To ensure good visibility, vertical 8-by-10-inch photographs are recommended. Photos must fit in an 8-by-10-inch space. If more than one photo of the same pet is submitted, both photos must fit in the 8-by-10-inch space. Photos may be cut to fit and stapled or taped to the display.

The owner's name, address, and phone number, as well as the pet's breed and name, must be on the back of the photo. Entries are limited to two per family.

Photos will be on display for voting throughout Fair Week. Photos can be picked up on Aug. 26 at the pet photo display following the announcement of winners. Any photos not picked up at this time will available at Brandt's Farm Supply, 601 E. High St., Elizabethtown, until Friday, Sept. 8.

One cent equals one vote. The three pet photos with the most votes during fair week will receive gift certificates donated by Waggin' Wheels Pet Supply. Proceeds from the Pet Photo Contest will benefit the 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue and the Elizabethtown Fair. For more information, call Gail at 717-575-3160.

The Rebar Metalwork Contest is limited to exhibitors age 18 and older. Exhibitors can use one 10-foot piece of one-half-inch rebar, which they may cut, forge, weld, bend, or shape. No other materials may be added, and entries may not be painted. The use of clear finish, glue, and welding materials is permitted. The total weight of the entry may not exceed 8 pounds.

Entries will only be received at the Fair Office on Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon. There is a nominal entry fee. For more details, call Matt at 717-580-5409.
