Field Hockey Team Plans Chicken Barbecue

Hempfield High School's field hockey team will host a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 21. The fundraiser will take place at Stauffers of Kissel Hill, 301 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The purchase of a ticket will include barbecue chicken, a potato, applesauce, and a dinner roll. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the field hockey team and activities for the 2021 season. The team noted it hopes to offer free field hockey opportunities for children in the community to learn about the game in the offseason.

The field hockey program is an extension of the high school learning experience. It helps teach student-athletes about dedication, teamwork, adversity, and sportsmanship. "As coaches, we work to create a positive learning environment by providing meaningful experiences while enhancing skills and positive values through the sport of field hockey," said head coach Sara Brooks. "We also work to grow the game in the community as we work with elementary players in the offseason and build a bridge between current and future players."

The season will kick off on Monday, Aug. 23, with a scrimmage at East Pennsboro. The first official game is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 4, against Elizabethtown at Hempfield High School. For the full schedule, visit http://www.hempfieldsd.org/Page/251.

As the season draws closer, players said they are most looking forward to improving their game, growing together, spending time as a team, and having fun.
