Fire Company To Sell Fastnachts

Lafayette Fire Company, 63 Lafayette Way, Lancaster, has announced its fourth Fasnachts for Fassnacht fundraiser. The event celebrates the Pennsylvania German tradition of Fastnacht Day; recognizes the Fassnacht family, which serves the fire company; and pays tribute to the late Jan Fassnacht, who died of cancer. Jan served as an EMS provider and East Lampeter Township police officer and volunteered at Lafayette Fire Company more than 25 years ago.

Community members may preorder powdered or glazed fastnachts by the dozen at https://tinyurl.com/lafayettefundraiser2023. The pastries will be provided by Bird-in-Hand Bakery. Drive-through pickups will take place on Monday, Feb. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 5:30 to 9 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit the Lafayette Fire Company firefighters and will be earmarked for cancer prevention initiatives. Proceeds from past events have enabled the fire company to purchase a gear washer, as even the equipment and gear that firefighters use increase their risk of developing cancer.
