First Friday Activities Set At Ware Center

The Arts at Millersville University will hold several activities on First Friday, Dec. 2, at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

A Local Artisan Makers Market will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m., offering scarves, pottery, ornaments, jewelry, stained glass, wood crafts and more. Artisans will include students from the Millersville University Jewelry & Metal Arts Guild, Slip and Score Pottery, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers organizations. Local artists include Lunga Bechtel, Keisha Finnie, Louis Logan, Charlene Randolph, and others from the Lancaster County Art Association and Lancaster Designer Craftsmen.

On the Steinman Hall stage at 6:30 p.m., attendees will get a preview listen to the Lancaster tradition of Tuba Christmas before the event is held in Penn Square to ring in the holiday season under the direction of Tell School of Music faculty member Jennifer Jester.

Also, an opening reception will take place in the Regitz Gallery for the art exhibit "3+3 Sparks of Imagination," curated by artist Ron Ettelman. "3+3 Sparks of Imagination" features artworks by Steve Abreu, Ettelman, Jeff Geib, Claire Giblin, Gail Gray, and Linda Ross. The exhibit will remain on display through Friday, Jan. 27. The Ware Center gallery exhibits are open on Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend hours. Also participating in First Friday, the Millersville University student chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) will be collecting new and gently used winter apparel and coats for families in need at the Ware Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Coat drive partners include the Millersville University applied engineering students, Lancaster Food Hub, Lancaster Habitat of Humanity, and United Way of Lancaster County.

All coats received will be donated to Lancaster Food Hub for distribution to individuals and families in the Lancaster area. Clothing donated to Lancaster Food Hub is distributed through its free clothing bank program, as well as its PA Workwear partnership with local workforce development organizations.

The NSBE is committed to serving underprivileged communities and increasing the representation of minorities in the engineering field.
