First responders are invited to breakfast

Connecting with the community is part of the mission of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Manheim, and the church wants to express its gratitude for some specific members of that community. The church, located at 90 S. Charlotte St., will host a First Responders Breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7 to 10 a.m.

"The breakfast is a great morning," said priest-in-charge Barbara Seras. The meal used to be catered, but the church decided there was enough culinary talent amongst the parishioners to create a delicious meal.

"Now our folks do all the cooking," Seras stated.

The menu will include eggs, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, home fries and more, said Brent Fortney, a vestry member who is helping to organize the meal. "We do this to provide a community service and give thanks for all the first responders do for us," he shared. "We just want to convey our thanks."

The meal is open to any first responders in Manheim and their families. Seras recalled how previous breakfasts have provided an opportunity not only to give back to those who serve their community, but also to connect with first responders and hear their stories. She explained that chatting one-on-one with first responders gave her a greater appreciation for the hours they spend on the job and what they do on a daily basis.

The first responder breakfast is just one way the congregation at St. Paul's strives to impact the community. The church holds an annual blessing of the animals event, regularly hosts sub and sandwich sales, has an annual yard sale and runs adult study groups on a variety of biblical stories and materials. The church also supports the Manheim Central Food Pantry by collecting nonperishable items and monetary donations of pocket change to buy food from Blessings of Hope for the pantry.

In December, St. Paul's will host Carols, Cocoa, Cookies and More. The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, and it will feature fun for people of all ages, Seras said.
