Fishing Program Planned For Children

A Get Hooked on Fishing program will be offered on Saturday, Aug. 13, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at Kiwanis Lake, located in Farquhar Park at the corner of Parkway Boulevard and Newberry Street in York city. The goal of the program is to teach children a new skill and outdoor hobby as well as to spark an interest in the outdoors and nature.

Anyone is welcome to stop by. Rods will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and bait, drinks, and snacks will be available for everyone.

The Rotary Club of York and the S.A.F.E. Program of Friends and Neighbors of Pennsylvania previously offered the program on July 23 and Aug. 6. In advance of the July 23 event, the Rotary Club of York had the lake stocked with blue catfish, and Nate's Baits of York provided the bait for the day. Rotary Club members, Group Violence Initiative Credible Messengers, and community members were on hand to provide instruction. Every child was given a free fishing rod and tackle box combination and a T-shirt.
