Flax 101 class posted

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum will host a new, hands-on class titled Flax 101 on Saturday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Landis Valley Museum has grown and processed flax for many years, as flax fiber was used to create linen, an important textile to Pennsylvania Germans.

With guidance from Landis Valley historic farming expert Joe Schott, attendees will "pull," or harvest, flax in the field; learn about the retting process; and then process retted flax to fiber. Attendees should dress to be outside, wear comfortable shoes and bring water. This workshop requires some physical exertion. Participants should meet at the Visitor's Center.

The event will be held if there is light rain, but it will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 29, if thunderstorms or heavy rain is predicted.

Space is limited, and all sales are final. There is a fee, with a discount for Landis Valley Associates members. Proceeds will benefit the museum.
