Former prisoner of war to share his story

The Military Oral History Club of Lancaster County will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at VFW Post 2435, 401 Manor St., Columbia. Army veteran Robert L. Thompson will be the guest speaker.

Thompson, a Honey Brook resident, served with the 23rd Infantry Regiment. After basic training, he came ashore at Utah Beach in 1944, joining the 2nd Infantry in Normandy and continuing through central France in the Battle of the Bulge. His squad was captured by the Germans during the Rhine Campaign and was sent to a prisoner of war camp in Germany.
