Foundation Plans Golf Tournament

The Hempfield Foundation will hold its 2022 Golf Tournament on Monday, June 27, at Conestoga Country Club, 1950 Stone Mill Road, Lancaster. The event will begin with registration and lunch at 11 a.m., followed by golf starting at 12:30 p.m. The title sponsor for the tournament is also the foundation's Premier Community Partner, Penn State Health.

"The Hempfield Foundation holds this annual event to support our teacher grant program," said foundation president Doug Herr. "The monies we raise go toward funding grants to help Hempfield teachers in all school buildings to implement the great ideas they have for their classroom."

At the 2021 tournament, the winning team consisted of Wes Konchar, John Knoll, Paul O'Connell, and Matt O'Connell from Donegal Insurance Group, a 1993 partner of the foundation.

Separate fees have been set for individual golfers and for groups of four. Single hole sponsorships are available. For more information about the tournament, to register as a player or hole sponsor, or to learn about annual partnerships with the foundation, visit http://www.hempfieldfoundation.org or email hempfieldfoundation@gmail.com.

"In the 2021-22 school year, the foundation funded more than 70 grants totaling nearly $140,000," Herr said. "HSD (Hempfield School District) staff use these grants to fund programs and initiatives that support academics, school libraries, the arts, athletics and physical education, counseling, learning support services, special education, and career and technical education. Moreover, these grants will impact students in every HSD school building."

During the 2022 Hempfield Senior Awards Night on May 9, the foundation also gave out $26,000 in scholarships to graduating Hempfield seniors. The foundation's scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded to students who demonstrate excellent character, outstanding leadership, strong community service, academic achievement, athletic success, and entrepreneurial spirit. Anyone interested in creating a scholarship through the foundation may email hempfieldfoundation@gmail.com.

Founded in 1993, the Hempfield Foundation is a separate not-for-profit organization that supports the educational mission of the Hempfield School District through grants and scholarships. The foundation awards grants to the Hempfield faculty for initiatives that are designed to enhance the academic experiences of Hempfield students. These grants allow teachers to try creative, research-based ideas that they may not otherwise be able to implement. The annual scholarships given by the foundation aim to help graduating seniors succeed in their transition to college or other postsecondary educational opportunities.
