Free concerts will be offered in War Memorial Park

Summer is in full swing, and that means it's time for Music in Memorial Park. The annual concert series, presented by the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce, will offer free concerts in War Memorial Park, 101 Marietta Ave., Mount Joy, on Sundays, July 28, Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. Beginning at 5 p.m., food trucks will be on-site for each concert, and the music will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Kracker Beez, a three-piece guitar, bass and drum band, will kick off the concert series on July 28. The group plays a mix of classic party rock 'n' roll. Spud Muffin, which features fresh-cut french fries, burgers and more, will be the food truck on hand for the first concert.

On Aug. 4, Auscultation Brass will entertain. The band includes physicians who have been playing together since 1985 under the leadership of Dr. Gerald Rothacker. "The Auscultation Brass, now in its 39th year, is delighted to be returning to the park in Mount Joy after an absence of 25 years," Rothacker said. "Our medical group of musicians promises a program that is entertaining and educational." Piper Belles BBQ will be the food truck on-site for this concert.

The Stu Huggens Band will wrap up the concert series on Aug. 11. The band performs a mix of high-energy country and Americana music. The final concert in the series will feature food from Spud Muffin, as well as a free ice cream social provided by members of the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Clair and Mary Ginder.

"The concerts are a wonderful opportunity for the Mount Joy community to spend a relaxing evening listening to great music," said Michele Emenheiser, Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce executive director. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to the concerts.

Sponsors of the concert series are Members 1st Federal Credit Union and The Merchandiser/Townlively.com. Not only do the concerts provide free entertainment and a fun way to spend a summer evening, but they also offer Chamber members exposure to the community.
