Friends Group Donates To Library

The week of Oct. 17 to 23 is National Friends of Libraries Week, and the Friends of the Milanof-Schock Library recently presented the library with a check for $21,000, the proceeds generated by the group's summer used book sale. They also gave the library a donation in the name of three devoted Friends who have passed - Donna Little, Janet Jarvie, and Dorothy Allen.

The library's Friends group, established in 1999, raises funds to help support the library's mission of providing quality resources, programming, and services to the community. Fundraisers include a yard sale, bake sales, a holiday and gift sale, sub sales, the Gift and Book Nook in the library, and a book sale, which is the group's largest fundraiser of the year. The funds the library receives from the Friends may go toward programming, books, cleaning supplies, the Summer Reading Program, staffing, and repairs.

New members are always welcome. Meetings are held monthly at the library, with the exception of July and December, and there are nominal annual dues. For details, contact Friends president Joyce Summers at 717-940-6569 or Friends secretary Joanne Myers at 717-653-6745.
