Gap Lions Club To Host Business Mixer

The Gap Town Clock Lions Club will present a business mixer on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Integrous Fences and Decks, 32 Route 41, Gap.

The event is free and will be held outdoors on the Integrous deck. "We are more of a business club, but anyone is welcome," said club president Steve Wenrich. "(The business mixer) is for people interested in learning more about the Lions Club and (businesspeople) who want to network with other businesses."

Attendees will also enjoy complimentary dinner items. "We are having a cookout, some side dishes and dessert," Wenrich noted.

Wenrich will speak briefly about the club and its activities at the event, and applications will be available for those interested in pursuing membership in the club. Club members pay an annual fee and there is also a new member application fee, but the latter fee will be waived for those who attend the mixer.

The Gap Town Clock Lions Club is a relatively new club, having formed in 2018. There was a Lions Club in Gap many years ago, but the club was revitalized and renamed as a way of drawing attention to the Gap Town Clock, the well-known local landmark.

So far, the club has held a chicken barbecue, as well as a Christmas bazaar at the Gap Fire Hall. Most recently, it held a food distribution for people in need this past spring.

During the event, held at Salisbury Township Community Park, Lions Club members distributed about 160 boxes of food in a drive-up format. The boxes included pantry staples and fresh foods, along with snacks and bottled water.

People were invited to reserve a box in advance through the Lions Club Facebook page. "We worked with Blessings of Hope, which is an organization that gets food from grocery stores and different places that have excess, and they package them. We were able to distribute them to our community," Wenrich noted. "People contacted us to reserve a box and (others) stopped by because we made it open to the public."

The club's next event will be a Christmas bazaar at Gap Fire Hall on Saturday, Dec. 4. More details about the event will soon be available.
