Garden Club Wins Recognition

At the recent Philadelphia Flower Show, the Elverson Garden Club (EGC) achieved second place in the Large Garden category as well as the garden maintenance award. Due to the pandemic, the event, which is normally held in March at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, was held in June outdoors at Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park located just west of FirstEnergy Stadium.

For its entry, EGC created a Pollinator's Paradise Garden for butterflies. The well-drained, sunny plot the club chose to tend included herbaceous and woody plants as well as grasses.

EGC participants included co-chairmen R. Keith Simonetti and Bob Wickerham, along with EGC members Mary Wickerham, Carol Simonetti, Jim Wampler, Janice Wampler, Wendy Fox, Debbie Wright, David Wright, and EGC president Paul Scheetz. Many EGC nonmembers also voluntarily contributed daily early morning garden maintenance.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the EGC's monthly meetings. For more details, contact Linda Horner, membership chair, at 610-286-9184 or carlin59@aol.com.
