Garden Spot Sets Support Group Meetings

Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will host support group meetings in July and August. The programs are free and open to the public.

The Parkinson's Friends in Community will meet on Monday, July 28, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Dr. Kyle J. Durante from Garden Spot Dental will speak. Individuals with Parkinson's and their families and friends are invited to attend.

The Low Vision Friends in Community group will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. in the theater. The group, open to those with low vision or vision impairment, will feature an informational discussion on recent advances in the medical field that are associated with low vision. The monthly Memory Cafe, hosted by Harry and Hazel Urban and Melody Karick, ForgeWorks dementia consultant and educator, will be offered on Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by Dementia Friendly Lancaster. Anyone living with a dementia diagnosis and their care partner is welcome to attend.

A Care Partners in Community group for family care partners of persons with dementia or Alzheimer's will meet on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. in the Concord Room. The topic will be "Breaking the Silence: Navigating Social Interactions." Call Alexys Kanagy at 717-355-6171 for more information.

My Fellow Travelers in Community will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the theater. This group is for those noticing cognitive changes in themselves. For more information, call Leslie Hartman at 717-355-6076.

"Dementia Learning: How Does Dementia Affect the Senses?" will be presented in the theater on Tuesday, Aug. 19,  at 11 a.m. Karick will share the ways that dementia affects the senses.

Compassionate Neighbors in Community will gather on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the theater. The group is for friends or family members of those experiencing cognitive challenges. For more details, call 717-355-6076.

Dawn Cage, occupational therapist, will talk about the benefit and importance of occupational therapy for those with a Parkinson's Disease diagnosis.
