GEARS plans activities

GEARS is accepting teams for its Winter/Spring Coed Sixes Volleyball League scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 5, and conclude on Monday, April 15. Teams should submit a roster and registration fee no later than Monday, Jan. 22, to be included in the league schedule. Games will be on Mondays between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. The league is a 10-match season with playoffs. Rosters must have six to 15 players, and teams must have two females on the court at all times.

GEARS will offer indoor tennis lessons for youths ages 3 to 11. All classes will meet at the GEARS Community Center.

Iddy Biddy Tennis will be offered for children ages 3 to 6. Participants will learn agility, balance and coordination using the larger red balls and smaller nets and courts. The class will take place on Tuesdays, Feb. 6 to 27, from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Beginner Tennis, for those ages 6 to 11, will teach children of any skill level the fundamentals of tennis using the orange balls and smaller rackets, nets, and courts. Through the use of games and drills, players will learn the proper technique for forehand, backhand, serve, and volley. The classes will be offered for children ages 6 to 8 from 6 to 6:50 p.m. and ages 9 to 11 from 7 to 7:50 p.m.

Zumba Gold will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 7 to March 27, from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the gym at the GEARS Community Center. The class is a toned-down version of Zumba designed for active older adults and individuals who are deconditioned or new to exercise.

PJ Story Hour will be offered for children ages 4 to 10 on select Fridays at the Winters Heritage House, 47 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Dates and themes will be Jan. 26, Animals in Winter; Feb. 23, Bears; and March 22, Spring Time. Attendees may wear their winter pajamas to the programs, which will feature stories, crafts, and snacks.

Pickleball lessons will be offered for people age 18 and up in the gym at the GEARS Community Center on Thursdays, Feb. 22 to March 7. An intermediate class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by a beginner class from 7 to 8 p.m. Lessons will cover basic techniques, rules, and strategies. All equipment will be provided.
