GEARS plans activities

A Volleyball Skills Clinic for students in grades five through eight will be offered on Tuesdays, Feb. 20 to April 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the gym at the Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. Coaches will teach the fundamentals of volleyball using skill-specific drills along with games. This is an instructional program only, focusing on player development. There is a per-person cost, with a discounted rate for residents.

GEARS is organizing the Men's Slow Pitch Softball League scheduled to play on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings starting June 2 and finishing in the middle of August. The program will take place at the Elizabethtown Borough Community Park softball field on South Mount Joy Street. An organizational meeting will be held for this league on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St. The fee and league schedule will be discussed at the meeting. GEARS will host its 18th annual four-person scramble golf tournament, sponsored by R.E. Pierson Materials, on Friday, April 26, at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course, 650 S. Harrisburg St., Harrisburg. Golf will begin with a shotgun start at 1:15 p.m. The fee per player includes green fees, use of a cart, range balls, dinner and awards. Tournament proceeds will benefit the GEARS Summer Playground Program.
