GEARS Plans Activities

Zumba, a dance fitness class that fuses musical rhythms and unique moves, will be offered for people age 14 and up on Wednesdays, Sept. 7 to Dec. 7, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. There will be no class on Nov. 23.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles Jr., a Snapology program, will be offered for children ages 4 to 6 on Thursdays, Sept. 8 to Oct. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Children will build models of cars, trains, boats and more using Kid K'NEX.

POUND will be held for people age 14 and up on Fridays, Sept. 9 to Dec. 9, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at Fighting Dragons with no class on Nov. 25. Participants will use Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercise. They should bring a yoga mat.

Cycle Strong, for people age 14 and up of all fitness levels, will take place on Saturdays, Sept. 10 to Dec. 17, from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at The Marriage Hub, 18 N. Market St., Elizabethtown. There will be no class on Oct. 15 and Nov. 26. Participants may choose to bring two small hand weights for upper-body strength work during the ride.

The Iddy Biddy Soccer Program for children ages 3 to 5 will take place on Saturdays, Sept. 10 to Oct. 29, from 9 to 10 a.m. or 10 to 11 a.m. at Elizabethtown Area High School's Field 2, 800 E. High St. The program will not be held on Oct. 8. Coaches will teach basic soccer skills. The fee includes a T-shirt. Shin guards are recommended, and cleats are optional.

A Superheroes and Princess Party will be offered on Friday, Sept. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center. The event will include music, dancing, crafts, a princess/superhero costume parade and a visit from well-known princesses and superheroes. Each participant must be chaperoned by one adult age 18 or older, and participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite princess or superhero attire. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 9.

Feel Good Yoga, for people age 14 and up of all fitness levels, will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Mondays and/or Thursdays from Sept. 12 to Dec. 15 at Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel, 1244 Bainbridge Road, Elizabethtown. There will not be classes on Oct. 6, Oct. 10, Nov. 21, or Nov. 24. Participants should bring a yoga mat and yoga block.

Hatha Flow Yoga, for people age 14 and up, will be offered from Sept. 12 to Dec. 17. Classes will be on Mondays and/or Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel as well as on Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at The Marriage Hub, with no class on Oct. 15, Nov. 23, and Nov. 26. Participants should wear layers of comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, strap and block.

Longtime Elizabethtown College men's basketball coach and two-time state champion coach Bob Schlosser will offer a clinic for skill work for girls and boys in grades three through five on Tuesdays, Sept. 13 to Oct. 18, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. in the gym at the Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown.

GEARS will offer Chair Yoga for people age 14 and up on Thursdays, Sept. 15 to Dec. 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at The Marriage Hub. Using the support of a chair, participants will practice breath work, movement and meditation from a seated or standing position.
