GEARS plans kids' programs and more

A Girls' Basketball Camp, for girls entering grades three through eight, will be held from Monday to Thursday, June 26 to 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Daubert Gym at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown. This camp will focus on the fundamentals of the game. Coaches will stress the basics of dribbling, shooting, passing and more. Participants should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes. A T-shirt is included in the fee.

GEARS will offer a Girls' Volleyball Camp featuring former Elizabethtown volleyball standout and current Towson University Division I player Sydney Stewart. The camp, for girls in grades five through eight, will be held from June 26 to 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown. Campers will work on fundamentals of the game - passing, hitting and serving. Game play and competitions will also be included. Participants should wear sneakers. Kneepads are optional but recommended. A T-shirt is included in the fee.

Two tennis camps will be offered from June 26 to 29 and Monday to Thursday, July 10 to 13, at the tennis courts at EAHS.

A Beginner Tennis Camp for children ages 4 to 6 will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Participants will focus on learning and building tennis fundamentals with an emphasis on fun. The camp will focus on learning proper techniques, while cultivating a love of the sport through drills and games.

A Teen Tennis Camp will offer instruction from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for youths ages 13 to 17. Participants will develop and improve skills through conditioning, stroke development and strategy. The camp is for current or aspiring high school tennis players.

Science of Superpowers, a Snapology class, for children ages 5 to 10, will offer an opportunity for students to explore gravity, aerodynamics, forces, motion and more as they learn about flight, super villain fights and superhero vehicles. The program will take place on June 26 to 29 from 9 a.m. to noon in the gym at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown.

A trip to the Finger Lakes Wine Fest will take place on Saturday, July 8, with departure at 6:30 a.m. from the EAHS parking lot. The festival features more than 90 New York state wineries, along with live music, wine seminars, food demonstrations and a gourmet food court. A wine pickup service will be available. Attendees must be age 21 and up and have a photo ID to participate.
