GEARS Plans Robotics, Fitness Programs

MegaMachine Robotics, a program provided by Snapology, will be offered for children ages 6 to 9 on Tuesdays, Sept. 6 to Oct. 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. Children will create robotic motorized vehicles using Lego Technic Bricks and then use tablets and visual coding to animate their creations. Students will learn about gear ratio, sensors, pulleys, cranks and programming.

Youths ages 9 to 12 may participate in Combat Robots, a Snapology program, on Tuesdays, Sept. 6 to Oct. 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center. Children will build robots using Lego Technic Bricks and then participate in competitions such as robot football and a hoop challenge.

Spin & Sculpt, for people age 18 and up, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 6 to Oct. 20, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. or 7 to 8 p.m. in The Marriage Hub, 18 N. Market St., Elizabethtown. The class offers a combination of indoor cycling and strength training. People of all fitness levels are welcome, and they should bring a towel, dumbbells and water. Lynn Mohr will instruct.

Fight 'N Flow, for people age 14 and up, will offer MMA-style cardio conditioning paired with Kata, yoga and Pilates inspired flow. Taught by Kayla Firestone, the class will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 6 to Dec. 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown.

Zumba Gold will take place on Wednesdays, Sept. 7 to Nov. 16, with no class on Sept. 21, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12. Participants will meet from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the gym at the GEARS Community Center. This toned-down version of Zumba is accompanied by Latin American and international-style music. This class is geared toward deconditioned persons, beginner exercisers and active older adults. Judy McMillen will instruct.
