GEARS posts sports, fitness classes

GEARS is accepting team registrations for its Fall Coed Slow-Pitch Softball League. The registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 28. League play will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Mondays to Thursdays from Sept. 11 to early November at the Elizabethtown Area Community Park softball field, located on South Mount Joy Street. Each team will play a 10-game schedule with playoffs. There is a team entry fee.

GEARS is also accepting registrations for its Fall Coed Sixes Volleyball League, scheduled to begin on Sept. 11 and conclude by Monday, Nov. 20. Teams interested in playing in this league should submit a team roster and registration fee no later than Aug. 28 to be included in the league schedule. Games will be on Mondays between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. The league is a 10-match season with playoffs. Rosters may have between six and 15 players, and teams must have two females on the court at all times.

Vinyasa Yoga, for beginners and advanced yoga students age 18 and up, will be held on Thursdays, Aug. 31 to Nov. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Village Carpenter Chapel, 1244 Bainbridge Road, Elizabethtown. No class will be held on Sept. 14 and Nov. 23.

Spin & Sculpt, which features indoor cycling and strength training, will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 5 to Oct. 19, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. (Class A) or 7 to 8 p.m. (Class B) at Community Place on Washington, 105 E. Washington St., Elizabethtown. Attendees should bring their own dumbbells. This class is for people age 18 and up of any fitness level.

Alternating weeks of Pound and Pound Unplugged, for people age 14 and up, will take place on Tuesdays, Sept. 5 to Dec. 5, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. at the Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. The last class of each month will be a glow-in-the-dark session. Participants will use Ripstix, lightly weighted drumsticks intended for exercise. Pound Unplugged is a calmer version of Pound that includes rhythmic breathing and meditation. People should bring a water bottle and a sweat towel.
