GEARS to offer net sports programs

Pickleball lessons will be offered for people age 18 and up on Tuesdays, May 14, 21, and 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Legion Park tennis/pickleball courts in Marietta. Lessons will cover basic techniques, rules, and strategies. All equipment will be provided.

Tennis lessons will be available this spring.

Two classes for youths ages 8 to 14 will meet on Thursdays, May 16 to June 6, at the Legion Park tennis courts in Marietta.

Find Your Sweet Spot, for children of any skill level, including beginners, will be held from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m. Participants will learn the fundamentals of tennis using the larger red balls and smaller courts. Through the use of games and drills, players will learn proper technique for forehand and backhand, focusing on hand-eye coordination.

The Grand Slammers is for players who have some experience playing tennis. Instruction will focus on continuing to develop forehand and backhand and introduce players to serve and volley. The class will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

GEARS will also offer tennis lessons for youths ages 3 to 16 on Tuesdays, May 7 to 28, at the Elizabethtown Area High School tennis courts, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown.

Iddy Biddy Tennis will be offered for children ages 3 to 5. Participants will use the larger red balls and smaller nets and courts. The class will take place from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

Beginner Tennis, for those ages 6 to 11, will teach children of any skill level the fundamentals of tennis using the orange balls and smaller courts. Through the use of games and drills, players will learn the proper technique for forehand, backhand, serve, and volley. The classes will be offered for children ages 6 to 8 from 6 to 6:50 p.m. and ages 9 to 11 from 7 to 7:50 p.m.

Beginner Tennis (Pre Rally Skills Only) will offer children ages 12 to 16 of any skill level an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of tennis using regular tennis balls. Through the use of games and drills, players will learn proper technique for forehand, backhand, serve, and volley. The class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.

Intermediate Tennis (Ready to Rally) is for those ages 12 to 16 who have completed two or more sessions of tennis lessons. Instruction will focus on continuing to develop tennis skills, as well as footwork and preparing for match play. The program is particularly suitable for players who intend to play tennis in high school. The class will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
