GEARS to offer sports, fitness programs and more

Power Hour with Lynn will be held on Mondays, Sept. 11 to Oct. 30, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Community Place on Washington, 105 E. Washington St., Elizabethtown. There will be no class on Monday, Sept. 18. Featuring body weight exercises, plyometric drills and weight training, the class is suitable for people of all ages and experience levels.

Chair Yoga will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, Sept. 14 to Dec. 14, at the Fighting Dragons, 101 Cherry St., Elizabethtown. Using the support of a chair, participants will perform the movements in a seated or standing position. The class is for people age 14 and up.

GEARS will offer tennis lessons for youths ages 8 to 14. All classes will meet on Thursdays, Sept. 14 to Oct. 5, at the tennis courts at Legion Park in Marietta. The classes will be taught by Pam Kaylor, Donegal High School assistant tennis coach.

Find Your Sweet Spot will be offered from 5 to 5:50 p.m. for beginners. Participants will learn the fundamentals of tennis using the larger red balls and smaller courts.

Youths who have some experience playing tennis are invited to join the Grand Slammers class from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m.

Longtime Elizabethtown College men's basketball coach and two-time state champion coach Bob Schlosser will offer a clinic for skill work for girls and boys in grades three through five. The clinic will take place on Tuesdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 17, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. at the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown.

New this year, another Bob Schlosser Basketball Skills Clinic will be offered in the gym at the Donegal Intermediate School, 1177 River Road, Marietta. Students in grades three through six may participate in this program, planned for Thursdays, Sept. 14 to Oct. 19, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.

Two Snapology classes will be offered on Tuesdays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 3, in the gym at the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown.

ABC's & 123's will be held on from 5 to 5:30 p.m. for children ages 2 to 4 accompanied by a parent. Participants will use DUPLO bricks and interactive toys.

A RoboPet Robotics Program will take place from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. for children ages 5 to 8. Using Lego WeDo Kits, children will build moving animals, learn the fundamentals of robotic design, explore animal habitats and discover gears and pulleys.

GEARS will offer a Christmas at Winters Heritage House Kids Decorating Club for youths ages 8 to 13 on Wednesdays, Sept. 13 to Dec. 6, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Winters Heritage House, 47 E. High St., Elizabethtown. There will be no meeting on Nov. 22. Using greens, grasses, berries and assorted dried fruits, children will make Colonial Christmas decorations for display at the Winters Heritage House. They will create traditional scherenschnitte paper cutting artwork and bake cookies and breads.
