Gift baskets to highlight Crafter's Bazaar

At last year's Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church (BIHUMC) annual Crafter's Bazaar organized by United Women in Faith, 36 themed gift baskets sold pretty quickly. This year, the women plan to have more than 50 baskets ranging from small to large to offer to shoppers.

The fourth BIHUMC Crafter's Bazaar will be held at the church, 2620 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to crafts and themed baskets, the event will include holiday decorations, food, and a baked goods table. Prior to the first Crafter's Bazaar, which was held in 2019, the church had held a holiday bazaar for more than 50 years.

Jo Miller, one of the planners of the event, said that the baskets will include a variety of themes to appeal to many interests. "We have pets, cooking, personal care, coffee, tea, game, and hair care products donated by a local salon," said Jo, who added that a special basket is being designed for an individual with disabilities. Merchants in the community donated items for the baskets, which will also include some gift cards. Each basket will include a tag listing the items within.

More than 17 crafters will take part in this year's event. Among the many craft items that will be available for purchase are woodcrafts, quilted and embroidered items, snowman candles, Christmas ornaments, watercolor prints, silk arrangements, rustic holiday wall hangings, handmade jewelry, painted rocks, note cards, and knitted and crocheted hats, scarves, and critters.

In addition, Pillows With a Mission will sell pillows, with all proceeds benefiting school supply kits that go to Mennonite Central Committee. More than 300 kit bags have been sewn by the group and then filled with school supplies donated by church members.

To satisfy hungry shoppers, the women plan to sell lunch items, including barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, and beverages. "We will have lots of baked goods (for sale)," added event organizer Audrey Miller.

Among the local organizations and efforts that are supported by the group are Clare House, Conestoga Valley Christian Community Services' Weekend Blessings, and the purchase of materials to create LuoPads for Unto. The group has also collected socks, gloves, and mittens for the Salvation Army and donated to Hudson's Heart for the Homeless.
