Connie Greenawalt, vice president/secretary, talked about the organization and its participation in Give Local York (GLY), a countywide day of fundraising set for May 1:
What is the mission of Central PA Horse Rescue?
To save horses from abuse, neglect, auctions, and slaughter; rehabilitate them; and try to find forever loving homes to make room for saving more at the rescue.
Why is the organization excited to participate in Give Local York this year?
We need whatever funds we can get as there are no grants or funding. The founders personally pay for everything, except perhaps less around $10,000 a year in donations. We need more volunteers. We have about five volunteers we can count on and that is not every day; perhaps one or two volunteers are here two to three hours a day. The president and vice president, the founders, are here 24/7, and we need more help. At Central PA Horse Rescue, 100% of donations go directly to the cause - the horses - and not someone's salary.
