John Tile, chapter chair, talked about the organization and its participation in Give Local York, a countywide day of fundraising set for May 1:

What is the mission of Susquehanna SCORE?

Our vision is to be our region's most valued business mentoring resource for our clients, in partnership with local nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to foster small business creation through mentoring and education to positively increase our community's economic impact (new businesses, new jobs, etc.).

Why is the organization excited to participate in Give Local York this year?

Our nonprofit organization must raise about 90% of our operating funds to provide the free services to small businesses in three business phases: business startup/planning, business sustainment (helping them solve issues while they are in business), and business valuation to pass their business to the next generation. We have 70 mentors that provide their time for free, but we still need support from an office temporary employee, internet, two computers, a copier, etc. This takes money. Our impact to the counties that we serve is impressive. In 2017-2018, we helped start 305 new businesses, helped create 370 new non-owner jobs, and provided over 5,100 services to our clients.

Give Local York is a great opportunity for our small organization to raise funds to help us continue our important work to positively impact our community's economy. We are very appreciative of this effort, and we all should be thankful for the efforts of Give Local York!
