Go shopping at an indoor yard sale

You never know what you might find at the annual Ruhl's Church indoor yard sale.

"There's always a huge variety," said Kris Gray, one of the event organizers.

The sale will be held on Saturday, March 2, from 7 to 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church, 4810 Elizabethtown Road, Manheim.

More than 30 stand holders will participate in the event.

"There will be baby clothes, household items, puzzles and a lot of antiques," said Barb Dunmire, one of the event organizers.

Gray noted that church members may donate items for a table where all proceeds from sales directly benefit the church and its ministries.

"People enjoy getting to clean out their closets, and it's a good excuse to pass along treasures to someone else," she said. "We have a big table of things this year."

The yard sale will also feature a table of free new and used Bibles and devotional books for people of all ages.

Along with yard sale items, a variety of food will be for sale, most prepared by the members of the congregation. The menu will include egg sandwiches, homemade chicken corn noodle soup, hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, baked goods and assorted beverages.

New this year, organizers will offer a door prize up for grabs for anyone who attends the sale. The winner will be contacted after the sale and does not need to be present to win.

Proceeds from stand holder donations and the food stand help fund the missions and ministry activities of the Sunshine adult Sunday school class. The class organizes and distributes food boxes for local families in need at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter; supports the church's participation in Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes; and hosts a special banquet for senior citizens. The class also sends cards to homebound members, donates winter coats for children and supports three local ministries.

Beyond serving as a fundraiser, the yard sale helps the church connect with the surrounding community, Dunmire said.

"It helps people know more about us, and it also brings in people from other communities," she stated. "We get lots of people attending this, not just people from Manheim."

Free parking is available in the church's large lot, and the building is handicapped-accessible. Neither pets nor smoking is permitted inside the building. For more information, call the church office at 717-665-3400.
