Good Friday Breakfast planned

The YMCA of the Roses invites community members to join the organization for the 70th annual Good Friday Breakfast on April 18 at 7:30 a.m. at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. This tradition brings people of faith together for a message and an ecumenical worship service, honoring the Christian roots of the YMCA.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. John G. Smith, lead pastor of Lampeter United Methodist Church (UMC) in Lancaster, where he has served for more than eight years.

Smith is a clergy member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. Originally from Jamaica, he has served in the conference for 24 years, including pastoral appointments at St. Paul's UMC, now New Creation UMC, in Lancaster; Mount Zion UMC in Akron; and Pocono Lake UMC. Prior to his service in the United Methodist Church, Smith served in the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas. He holds theological degrees from the United Theological College of the West Indies, the University of the West Indies, and Christian Theological Seminary, and he completed doctoral studies in pastoral counseling.

His professional interests include social justice, aging concerns, and grief and life transition counseling. Outside of ministry, Smith enjoys nature photography, dancing, and beach trips.
