Grants awarded to local businesses

A pair of recently awarded grants will support business expansion within the 106th District. The grants were Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants of $500,000 for Hidden Still Spirits and $1.1 million for Mary's Health & Fitness, both locally owned businesses.

Hidden Still Spirits founder David E. Stein and his business partners overhauled the former Hershey Company recycling facility, which was vacant and in disrepair for 25 years. The facility was then renovated to accommodate distilling, an eatery, and a tasting room.

Mary Schaefer Driscoll started Mary's Health & Fitness in 2014 by offering classes on a grass field in the Hershey area. Since then, she expanded into a studio and a training center, where youths and adults can get professional guidance on nutrition, sports psychology, and recovery. Driscoll said she intends to use the grant for building upgrades at the appointment-only training center on Bullfrog Valley Road in Hummelstown.

RACP grants support the design, acquisition, and construction of regional, economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects. They are administered by the Office of the Budget.
