Gregory A. Schneider

Gregory A. "Greg" Schneider, 72, formerly of Mount Joy, passed away at his residence at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz on Dec. 28. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Mary J. Spangler Schneider. Greg was the husband of Karen Snyder Schneider, with whom he celebrated 38 years of marriage this past Aug. 10.

Greg was a graduate of Donegal High School's Class of 1968. He retired from Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. after 33 years of service, starting as a photographer and writer before becoming the sports editor. Greg was a baseball coach with the Mount Joy Athletic Association for 15 years and served as president for part of that time. He loved coaching Mount Joy Blue Junior Midgets and sharing with his teams his love of the game as well as his beliefs of sportsmanship and honesty.

Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Poe Valley, Centre County. He also had a love of lighthouses, and he and Karen spent many vacations "chasing lighthouses" and taking thousands of photographs. Having had a walking disability for many years, he often joked about publishing a book of his photos titled "Photos Taken From the Cab of a Ford F-150."

Greg attended Pursuit Church in Manheim. His strong faith and his love of God carried him through the later years of his life and sustained him through his short illness.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Karen, is a daughter, Laura Lane, wife of Michael of Elizabethtown; two stepsons, Vaughn Brown of Mount Joy and Timothy Brown, husband of Brittany N. of Mount Joy; two grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Lane; seven stepgrandchildren, Brittany M., Travis, Micah, Aaron, and Joshua Brown and Aubrey and Jeremy Basore; and a brother, Arthur R. Schneider, husband of Lynn of Cary, N.C.

Arrangements were made by Sheetz Funeral Home Inc., Mount Joy.
