Gretna Music Posts All-Schubert Concert

Gretna Music will conclude its season with a concert by the Ulysses Quartet with bassist Sam Suggs and pianist Orion Weiss on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 3 p.m. in the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna. The all-Schubert program will include the String Quartet in G Major, D. 887, and the Piano Quintet in A Major, D. 667, "Trout."

The award-winning quartet is composed of Christina Bouey and Rhiannon Banerdt on violins, Colin Brookes on the viola, and Grace Ho on the cello. Bouey is an award-winning Canadian violinist who performed her first commissioned composition for solo violin while professional dancers accompanied her for the 150-year celebration of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Los Angeles native Banerdt made her solo debut at 14 and is currently the assistant concertmaster with the Cape Symphony in Hyannis, Mass. Brookes, a Pittsburgh native, has performed as a soloist and a member of ensembles. Ho is an award-winning Taiwanese-American cellist who has toured throughout the United States and Asia.

Buffalo native Suggs, a solo and collaborative bassist, was named New Artist of the Month by Musical America. Weiss made his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood as a last-minute replacement for the late pianist Leon Fleisher.
