GSV Posts Activities, Support Groups

Garden Spot Village (GSV), 433 S Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will offer a variety of support programs, along with events.

The Low Vision Friends in Community group will meet on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Dr. Jonathan Andrews from Optometric Associates in New Holland will speak. The program is free and open to the public. To learn more, contact Leah Hoffner at 717-355-6171.

The Alzheimer's Association and GSV co-sponsor a Caregiver Friends in Community group for family caregivers of persons with dementia. This group will meet on Monday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Concord Room to discuss the topic "Impact of Dementia on Family." The program is free and open to the public. Compassionate Neighbors in Community will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. in the theater. Free and open to the community, this monthly event teaches attendees how to support a friend or family member who is experiencing cognitive challenges. The group is facilitated by GSV team members Sitlinger and Karick. For more information, call 717-355-6000.

The Parkinson's Friends in Community will meet on Monday, Feb. 27, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Garden Towers. Dr. Sol De Jesus, a neurologist and motion disorder specialist at Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center, will provide information regarding the role of a motion disorder specialist as well as the latest treatment options. Individuals with Parkinson's disease and their family members and friends are invited to attend the meeting, which is free and open to the public. The ELANCO Nar-Anon Family Group meets on Sundays at 6 p.m. in the prayer and meditation room. Nar-Anon Family Groups seek to offer a supportive environment for people who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the addiction problem of someone close to them. Several GSV residents invite members of the public to join them in a regular time of prayer for revival in the community and nation. The prayer time will occur on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the chapel, starting Feb. 9.

A two-hour guided bus tour of the Welsh Mountains and surrounding area will be offered on Monday, Feb. 27, at 9:30 a.m. as part of the Welsh Mountain Series. The tour will include Welsh Mountain Home, Welsh Mountain Medical Center, the Nature Preservation effort and more. There is a fee. To make reservations, call 717-355-6000.

The Saturday Evening Concert Series will continue with a performance by the Susquehanna Slide Express Trombone Quartet on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The quartet has a varied repertoire, including marches, Broadway tunes, jazz music, sacred music, classical selections and more. For more information, call 717-355-6000.
