Halloween Events Set In Parkesburg

"It promises to be a fun day however you choose to be a part of it," said Parkesburg Lions Club member Robin McKenna when describing all of the Halloween events that will take place in the borough on Saturday, Oct. 29. Activities will include a Halloween Parade, a Trunk or Treat and a Fall Festival.

The annual Parkesburg Lions Club Halloween Parade will step off from the parking lot of A. Duie Pyle, located at 100 S. Limestone Road in Parkesburg, at 4 p.m. Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot.

The parade will proceed down First Avenue from A. Duie Pyle and end at South Gay Street. Judging will take place in front of the Keystone Valley Fire Department on First Avenue. Awards will be presented at the gazebo in Minch Park immediately following the parade.

"We invite costumed walkers and riders - adults and children - decorated floats, fire companies, dance and baton troupes, Scout troops, church groups, clubs, local businesses - anyone - to join in the fun," said McKenna.

After the awards presentation, the Parkesburg Lions will host a Trunk or Treat on the blacktop in Minch Park. The Trunk or Treat will begin between 4:45 and 5 p.m. and run through 6 p.m.

Community members are invited to participate. Vehicle owners will be asked to decorate their trunks and hand out treats to children. Decorations and treats are the responsibility of each vehicle owner. "Last year was the first year for this event, and it proved to be successful with over 300 children in attendance," McKenna noted. "This serves as an opportunity for children to safely trick-or-treat."

To preregister for the parade or to register a vehicle for the Trunk or Treat, contact McKenna at robinmckenna@comcast.net or Helen Leibig at hbkbleibig@comcast.net or message the club via the Parkesburg Lions Club's Facebook page.

Everybody Plays! - a nonprofit organization that has a goal of revamping Minch Park's playground to make it equally accessible to all - will hold a Fall Festival in Parkesburg's Minch Park on Oct. 29 from 1 to 6 p.m. The Parkesburg Lions Club will have a table at the festival, where club members will sell Gertrude Hawk candy bars.

The club will also offer visitors a chance to win a Philadelphia Eagles mini helmet autographed by linebacker Nakobe Dean; the helmet comes with a certificate of authenticity. A fee will be charged per ticket. The winner need not be present. Proceeds from the drawing will go toward the Everybody Plays! playground project.

The day will conclude with fireworks presented by the Parkesburg Area Special Events Committee. Minch Park will be the viewing spot for fireworks, which will begin around 8 p.m.
