Hempfield High School senior Lilly Heilshorn has received the $2,500 Elaine Galvin Named STAR Scholarship from P.E.O. International. Heilshorn, who also won the 2021 Grand Championship of the North Museum Science and Engineering Fair, is headed to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall to study civil and environmental engineering.

P.E.O. is a women's organization that has supported the education of women for 150 years. Through grants, scholarships and loans, P.E.O. strives to empower women of all ages to further their education and achieve their goals.

The STAR scholarship is awarded to outstanding senior girls across the U.S. and Canada. Established in 2009, STAR has awarded $14.9 million in scholarships. Lilly was sponsored by Lancaster Chapter BQ/PA, and the funds for the Elaine Galvin award were given by Chapter CD/PA in Reading.
