Herr Homestead Reopens For Tours

The Herr Family Homestead, 1756 Nissley Road, Landisville, next to Amos Herr Park, has reopened for guided tours. Tours of the house, grounds and barn will be available on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month through the end of October.

House tours will be approximately one hour and will begin at 1 p.m., with the last tour at 3:15 p.m. The 12-room brick farm house is furnished with pieces that reflect the period 1842 to 1910.

This is the first year the interior design of the Sweitzer-style post and beam barn, circa 1820, which illustrates the history of agriculture in Landisville before the age of specialized farming, will be open to view. Visitors may view tool and farm equipment that would have been used during the late 1800s and early 1900s. There are some antique farm tractors and belt-driven farm equipment such as corn shellers and a fodder chopper.

Items in the tobacco shed include a Minnich tobacco press that was manufactured in Landisville.

Guests may also explore the gardens surrounding the homestead.

There is no admission fee, but donations are appreciated. Group tours are available.
