High School Presents Monthly Awards

Each month during the school year, Lampeter-Strasburg High School (LSHS) faculty members present student awards in two categories - Pioneer Superlative and Student of the Month.

The Pioneer Superlative award is presented to students who exceed expectations by seeking and utilizing feedback resulting from participation in learning activities and experiences to realize and maximize growth potential. Possible areas of recognition include academics, attendance, behavior, and school/community involvement for the benefit and betterment of all. An emphasis is placed on societal improvement and altruism.

The Student of the Month award is presented to students who, through persistence, determination, and motivation, have improved and maintained success in one or more of the following areas: academics, attendance, behavior, and school/community involvement for the benefit and betterment of self. An emphasis is placed on self-improvement and self-actualization.

The Pioneer Superlatives for September were senior Lucy Smucker and junior Bennett Wehibe, and the Students of the Month were juniors Adyson Todd and Carson Weigle.

Lucy is the daughter of Shawn and Maile Smucker of Lancaster. She was nominated by the Fine Arts Department for going above and beyond and being willing to help others. Lucy is a member of the Madrigals, concert choir, Art Club, and Link Crew. She is also active in her church, where she sings and plays the guitar in the band. Lucy plans to attend college to pursue a career in fine art.

Bennett is the son of Steve and Cathy Wehibe of Lancaster. He was nominated by the Practical Arts Department for hard work and consistent positivity. Bennett is a member of the STEM Club, Student Council, Link Crew, concert band, Pioneer Interact Club, and boys' basketball team. A distinguished honor roll student, Bennett was also a Pioneer Superlative in his freshman year and was a Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Ambassador for LSHS. Outside of school, he plays for PA Classics MLS Next Soccer Academy, serves as a soccer referee, and plays the guitar. Bennett plans to attend college to study engineering and continue playing soccer.

Adyson is the daughter of John and Trista Todd of Lancaster. She was nominated by several departments for diligence, preparation, and thoughtfulness. She plans to pursue a career in criminology after graduation.

Carson is the son of Karen Weigle of Lancaster and Justin Weigle of Lancaster. He was nominated by the English department for his perseverance, work ethic, and respectful attitude.
