Hiking club plans outings

A 5-mile hike at Rocky Ridge County Park will be held on Sunday, July 9. Participants should meet in the first lot on the left, at the bathrooms, at 9 a.m. The contacts are Tom and Phyllis Morley at 717-825-6712 or pamorley@comcast.net.

The club will offer a 6-mile hike on the Chevrolet Trail in Woodstock, Md., on Saturday, July 15. Poles and good hiking shoes are recommended for this moderate trail. The group will meet at the parking lot across from the Woodstock Inn at 8 a.m., and early arrival is recommended. Attendees may dine at the Woodstock Inn after the hike. Interested individuals may visit Lake Redman on Sunday, July 16, for an approximately 3.4-mile loop hike featuring moderate climbs and views of the lake and streams. An easy, 4-mile out-and-back hike on the rail trail will be offered at John Rudy Park on Wednesday, July 19. Attendees should meet at the main parking lot off Mundis Race Road at 6 p.m. Attendees may bring binoculars, as there may be opportunities for bald eagle sightings. Spring Valley Park will be the location for a 5-mile hike on Saturday, July 22. Participants may take the trails, which feature steep hills, or the flat maintenance roads. The landscape is a mix of forest, meadow, farm fields and the occasional man-made structure. Attendees should meet at 8:30 a.m. in the main parking lot, located on Potosi Road. A 5- to 6-mile hike at Rocky Ridge will be held on Saturday, July 29, at 9 a.m. The group will hike on easy, moderate and difficult trails, including rocky and hilly terrain.
