Hiking Club Posts February Outings

York Hiking Club will host several hikes in February. For additional details, readers may visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com or the club's Facebook page. Participants should bring water and wear good walking shoes or hiking boots. On Sunday, Feb. 7, the club will offer a 4- to 5-mile hike around Rocky Ridge Park. Attendees may bring a snack. Participants will meet at the first parking lot on the left at Rocky Ridge, and they will depart at 1:30 p.m. The hike leaders, Jerry and Chris Broome, may be contacted at 717-757-6357 or cm.broome@hotmail.com.

A 7- to 8-mile loop hike will take place on Sunday, Feb. 14. The group will gather at Codorus State Park's first lot in the band shell area, accessible from Sinsheim Road. The hike will begin at 9:30 a.m. Participants will traverse the Ranger Trail, which features gentle hills, views of Lake Marburg and the possibility of seeing eagles. It could be muddy or wet in spots. The hike leader is Troy Jones, who may be reached by texting 717-487-3979 or emailing tejdesign100@gmail.com.

Community members are invited to join the club for a leisurely 6-mile hike along the Mason-Dixon Trail on Sunday, Feb. 21. The group will travel from Long Level up a moderately challenging rock scramble and then follow a rolling woodland path and dirt road to Cuff's Run to see waterfalls. The path features lookouts as well as some mildly rocky areas. Participants should wear blaze orange or have bright colors on their backpack. They should bring a lunch. Hikers should meet at the Long Level parking lot at the Bull Run Road sign across from Shanks Mare Outfitters store and next to the playground. The club will also offer a 5-mile loop hike around Lake Williams on Saturday, Feb. 27. Participants should arrive at the South George Street parking lot between the two lakes in time to begin hiking at 9 a.m. The trail a few moderate climbs.
