Hiking Club Sets Events

York Hiking Club will host upcoming three hikes. For additional details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com or the club's Facebook page. Hikers should wear appropriate attire, including hiking boots, and bring water, a lunch, and/or snacks.

A 3.5-mile hike will be held on Sunday, May 9, in the Hellam Hills. The route will mainly follow woodland roads, but involve some bushwhacking up a slope. The hike will follow Wildcat Run and go over Buzzards Roost. Participants should meet at the gated lot off Furnace Road near Chimney Rock Road in Hellam Township for a 9 a.m. departure. A 4-mile hike near Lake Redman will take place on Sunday, May 16. Hikers will meet for a 1:30 p.m. departure in the parking lot at Hess Farm and Spartan roads. For details, call Chris Schwankl at 717-819-8689 or Elaine Panzitta at 507-877-3241.

A hike of more than 8 miles on the Gettysburg Battlefield will be offered on Sunday, May 23. Participants will meet at the parking lot off Taneytown Road - the old museum parking lot across from the cemetery - for a 9 a.m. departure.
