Historical Foundation Plans World War II Weekend

The Lititz Historical Foundation is giving area residents an opportunity to experience the times and culture of the World War II era by holding a free event on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mary Oehme Gardens, located behind the historical foundation museum at 145 E. Main St., Lititz.

The event will include a World War II encampment, featuring more than 20 re-enactors, along with items that were once owned, used, or worn by the servicemen who served. Visitors will learn about Rosie the Riveter as a representative of the women who stepped up and performed important and necessary jobs on the home front. On that subject, "The American Home Front," a full-sized room-by-room, walk-through display of a typical 1940s American home, will be on site. In addition, authentic World War II-era artifacts will be on display.

The event is free for the public to attend. Donations are always welcome. Readers who have questions may call the foundation at 717-627-4636.
