Historical society announces programs

The East Petersburg Historical Society has announced its speaker programs for 2024. The gatherings will be held at the East Petersburg Community Center Building in East Petersburg Community Park, 6051 Pine St., East Petersburg, on Mondays at 7 p.m. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

On March 4, John and Nancy Snoke will present World War II memories highlighting the average men and women who served in the U.S. Army.

The Schauer family and its wooden planemaking business in the 1800s will be the topic of the April 1 program, presented by Todd Hostetter.

On May 6, Samuel Maurer IV will offer "The Alleys of East Petersburg," a video presentation in which George Parrish explains and tours the alleys system.

The Peter Gottschall family, the namesake of East Petersburg, will be the topic on June 3. Robert Alley will explain the family's origin and history.

Gary Fuhrman and Don Mattern will speak on the history of East Petersburg Bulldogs Youth Football on Oct. 7.

The East Petersburg Historical Society's archive museum at the Daniel Wolf House, 1905 State St., East Petersburg, is open to the public on the first Saturday of every month throughout the year. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to noon.
